May 2020 Newsletter

Greetings, readers!

Well, May surely flew by, didn’t it? ☺

And it was a busy time. So much so that finding available time to write has been harder and harder to come by over the past month. In addition to regular work duties picking up, I also am finding myself consumed by my own preparation for my next career – namely, teaching middle and high school English. So career, and career prep, have both relegated writing to the back-burner, where it does not belong. Hopefully that can change soon.

That being said, this month has not been without its victories, either. Three of my poems were published in the West Florida Literary Federation’s special edition of “The Legend,” titled “Life In The Time of COVID.” They were:

“Quarantine”

“Phantom Freedom,” and

“Viral Hurt.”

It is always gratifying for an author to see his or her work in print, and so this was a major success for me in an otherwise dull month for writing. “Life In The Time of COVID” is currently in electronic (PDF) form, so if you would like to see it, please let me know, and I will send it to you. I should note that my poems are hardly the only ones worth reading in this particular publication, as there is LOTS of talent featured in “The Legend.” You will not want to miss your opportunity to read some (or all) of it! So let me know if you’re interested.

I am also pleased to announce that I will be launching my weekly video series titled “The Hope Shelf” starting – if all goes well – early next week. This is a video platform that I, along with my publisher, have established in order to raise my own author profile and that of my work, while also spreading the joy of the written word and other means of inspiration. Once it is launched, there will be plenty of opportunities to watch and listen. So stay tuned!

This month, I was also interviewed by Shannon Simpson, who hosts “The Review” for Words Matter Publishing (my publisher). She did a phenomenal job interviewing me, and reviewing “Soul Sprints.” I was very pleased to get a 4.5-star (out of 5 stars) review from her. Thanks, Shannon!

I continue to edit “Treasure On The Bridge,” my novella which I have mentioned in previous months’ newsletters. And I am hoping to have the editing stages completed by the end of June for sure, if not before. In addition, my second book of poetry is waiting for me to properly format it before I publish it through Kindle Direct, after which it will be available for purchase and distribution.

Other than that, I’m basically just trucking along and trying to organize and synthesize the other ideas that I’ve had for stories, books, etc. Please pray, send positive vibes, or whatever else you do, that I can be diligent in redeeming the time to get all of them on paper, as that is my goal.

Finally, let me once more THANK YOU for being a faithful reader and a supporter. And let me also encourage you to share this newsletter with family and friends, and encourage them to connect with me on social media and through my website; “John W. Gibson, author” on Facebook, and www.johnwgibsonauthor.com is my website address.

Thank you again, I look forward to keeping in touch with you all!

Until June,

John
