Greetings, Readers!
It has been another crazy-busy month, for sure in the month of June.
Summer is definitely here, and I have enjoyed – among other things – hearing the crickets chirp at night. Having grown up in the Deep South, I always to this day associate that sound with the advent – and presence – of summertime. Somehow it just “mixes” with the nighttime humidity to assure me that southern hot summer days are here to stay, at least for a few months. And I love that!
I am thrilled to report that I have finished revising “Treasure On The James Point”!!!! ☺ This is my newest novella, which has undergone much personal editing from me – to include a couple of titular changes in the process. And I am very excited about submitting it to my editor (aka – my wife) and letting her read it before I send it off to be judged in a contest specifically for novellas.
Again, for those perhaps unaware, a “novella” is essentially a hybrid between a short story (usually around 50 pages) and a full-length novel (>150 pages, usually). This is my first one, and so I am very excited about the prospect of having it judged, and am hoping that the judges at the Miami (Ohio) University writing department who are hosting the contest will find it worthy of their grand prize. So we will see!
Once it is fully edited, I will try to share an excerpt of it on this blog so that folks can read some of it. Stay tuned!
From here, my next project will be finishing up my second collection of poetry – to be published in book form – as well as starting work on my next novel. I am not sure which of the several ideas currently rolling around in my brain I will select as the next project, but I look forward to getting back into full-length writing after taking a break and focusing for a while on shorter fiction and more poetry. Stay tuned!
Speaking of “Soul Sprints,” sales and publicity are still slow – thanks in part to COVID-19 and the draconian restrictions being imposed on us by certain imperious politicians. I would love to get out more and have more opportunities to publicize the book – aside from just doing so online. But that’s not possible right now, unless I account for jail time or other criminal penalty as a possible aftermath. God bless America.
That being said, one of my most effective publicity resources is YOU! Yes, you! ☺ Whether you have read “Soul Sprints” already, are currently reading it, or just want to help me get “famous,” please help get the word out about my books. Word-of-mouth is truly one of the most effective ways to publicize, so please do what you can to let folks know how they can find me. There’s my website (via which I share this newsletter / blog; www.johnwgibsonauthor.com) as well as my Facebook author page (www.facebook.com/jwgibsonauthor). I’m counting on you all, and I appreciate you!
Hope everyone has a blessed month of July. Please stay in touch, and take care.
Respectfully,
John
