Greetings, readers.
It has been a while since I have sent out a newsletter; since September, to be exact. Things have been busy, but then things are always busy. My apologies for the delay in keeping you all updated. I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving, and are looking forward to the holiday season ahead.
On the writing front, things have been fairly productive. I am just before completing yet another short story which I am hoping to compile into a collection along with other short stories and possibly publish those within a year or so. Additionally, there has been plenty of poetry (somehow finding inspiration and the time to write poetry always comes easier to me, but I digress).
One such poem was actually part of an assignment that I recently completed toward one of my teacher certificate classes. I had to pick a subject or concept that I might teach in class one day, and since I am aiming to become an English teacher, I selected “onomatopoeia.” For those that may not be aware, onomatopoeia (pronounced “ah-no-matt-o-pee-yah”) is the verbalization of sound (i.e. – “pow” “kerplunk” “pling”). My poem is below. Enjoy!
Onomatopoeia
Onomato
Sounds, words, combinations, description;
Child of two objects connecting physically and verbal detail;
Lover of “kersplatting,” “kerplunking,” and “swishing”;
Who feels poetic and illustrative and phonetically colorful;
Who needs creativity, innovation, and new lingo;
Who fears repetition, sameness, and the mundane;
Who gives smiles, broadened literary horizons, and laughter;
Who would like to see
…a puppy going “plop” as he learns to walk
…a gentle breeze “whooshing” through thick oak branches and leaves
…a bat “craaaaacking” against a baseball as the crowd explodes.
Resident of all the poetry and prose of the world,
Poeia
This assignment called for writing a poem DESCRIBING whatever you wished to write about, using first and last names (hence, the splitting up of the word). Just a cute, whimsy poem. Hope you like it.
Not much else to report beyond this. As always, please check out the website here, and do consider purchasing some of my work if you haven’t done so already. And please also spread the word about www.johnwgibsonauthor.com.
Thanks and God bless!
